Ingredients
Dal -1 cup
Vegetables of your choice
Sambar Stories Sambar Powder – 2 or 3 teaspoons
Tamarind – Small lemon size
Salt – According to taste
For Seasoning:
Oil – 1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds
Hing /Asafoetida
Jeera
Curry Leaves
Procedure
Cook the dal along with the vegetables like beans/carrot etc., in the pressure cooker or cook/saute vegetables later.
Soak tamarind in water for 10 minutes.
In a thick bottomed vessel , add salt , Sambar Powder, tamarind juice , curry leaves and bring to boil.
When it begins to boil, add dal & vegetables to it and boil with desired quantity of water.
Seasoning:
Season the Sambar with 1 spoon of oil , along with mustard, jeera, hing. Boil for some more time.
Serve piping hot Sambar with plain rice / idli/dosa.
